Mr. Hat Presents Grateful Wednesday: Scott Guberman & Friends w/ Embodied Groove CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19

Mr. Hat Presents Grateful Wednesday at Ashkenaz, featuring a very special edition of Scott Guberman & Friends featuring Reed Mathis, Katie Skene & Danny Leuhring, with a participatory dance warm-up by Embodied Groove.

Scott Guberman & Friends features the veteran keyboard wizard who has become a regular with Phil Lesh & Friends since moving west in 2015. He brings together the best jammers in the Bay Area to celebrate the Grateful Dead Songbook. For this show, he will be joined by Mr. Hat’s favorite Bass Master, Reed Mathis of Billy & The Kids, Golden Gate Wingmen, Fellowship of the Wing & Electric Beethoven. On Guitar and vocals, Katie Skene of Katie and Andrea, who recently toured with Dead & Co. playing the backstage parties and who is joining Dusty Green Bones Band on 2/8 at Toot’s Tavern. On drums, we will have the great Danny Luehring (San GeronimoColonel & the MermaidsCasual Coalition).

Embodied Groove’s Dr. Leah Ferree Taylor and members of the band will present a facilitated collaborative movement/dance/live music session to start the show, followed by two full sets of Grateful Dead Favorites.

Embodied Groove is a live music movement experience designed to enhance free, euphoric joy through live music. Participants will feel more connected to themselves, other fans, and the music, with good vibes flowing all around!

The main premise behind EG and the inspiration for the name is that music emits sound waves that the audience can feel and then embody through movement. As an audience moving to the music, we are an embodiment of the groove being created. Sometimes this happens naturally, for example to the music of the Grateful Dead or at a Phish concert. But sometimes people need guidance and permission to express themselves freely in response to live music.
