Dr. Leah Taylor and multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Harris present Embodied Groove movement with live music and a restorative sound bath.

Join us for this hour-long class that will include guided free-form movement to live music and a restorative sound bath at the end. This is appropriate for all movement levels and abilities.

An Embodied Groove class follows a flow similar to a conscious dance class with an intentional warm-up focused to get you grounded in your body, then moves into fun, inspired movement that includes empowering emotional expression and releasing what doesn’t serve. Class ends with a cool down of mindful stretching followed by a 15-minute restorative sound bath by internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Gabe Harris.

How is Embodied Groove different than other conscious dance classes? It includes live music created in the moment, in service to the movement. No class is ever the same as it is a co-creative experience that helps to enhance connection, compassion, and presence. Created by Dr. Leah Taylor from her graduate level training in somatic psychology and mind-body medicine, and extensive experience in embodiment, teaching movement, and dancing to live music, it focuses on mindfulness and presence, releasing stress and somatically held trauma, and connecting you to pleasurable ways of moving your body.

Dr. Leah Taylor is an Integrative Mental Health Specialist and High Priestess Healer who combines ancient healing techniques with cutting-edge science to help you let go of stress, overwhelm, and struggle to open up to and embody your highest and brightest self. She has a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine and a Master’s in Somatic Psychology, is trained as a Nia teacher, and has been teaching movement for over 15 years. She also hosts the Groove Therapy podcast exploring the intersection between live music and health and wellness. Find out more about Dr. Leah Taylor and Embodied Groove at drleahtaylor.com.

Gabe Harris is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and son of folk music icon Joan Baez and political activist David Harris. Gabe’s passion for the drum has taken him to Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Ghana, and South Africa. On his travels he also discovered and began a study of traditional Griot (Jeli) instruments including balafon (xylophone), and kamele n’goni (harp). Gabe has had the opportunity to study with a great number of master drummers and musicians. For a decade, Gabe was a full time touring percussionist, traveling and performing with the Joan Baez band throughout the U.S., Europe, Scandinavia, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Since Joan Baez retired from touring in the summer of 2019, Gabe has been performing, recording, and teaching from his studio in Fairfax, CA, and online.
